Château Pouget, 4th great growth classified Margaux, belongs to the Guillemet family, also owner of Château Boyd-Cantenac, still in Margaux. For a few years, Mr Guillemet son has taken over these two properties. He is the artisan of the qualitative renewal of these wines.
The surface area of the vineyard is 10 hectares of thin, draining Quaternary siliceous gravel. The grape varieties are 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The average age of the vines is 40 years old with an impressive planting density of 10’000 vines per hectare, in order to deliberately limit the yield of the vines. Ecological ahead of its time, the Guillemet family has not used any chemical fertilizers in the vines, and has not done so for over 30 years !
