Moscato d’Autunno is a blend of musts 100% of which come from Moscato Bianco Canelli grapes which brings all the traits of Moscato d’Asti Saracco to their full expression. The aromas, sweetness, acidity, the body, mineral notes and aftertaste come together in perfect balance.

COLOUR: Straw yellow with greenish hues, fine perlage, slow fermentation index.

BOUQUET: intense orange blossom, peach and thyme (the main aromas found in the grapes)

TASTE: intense, elegant and lingering. The sweet sensations are well balanced with a pleasant acidity and fruity aromas typical of Muscat grapes. Strong mineral notes.

PAIRS WELL WITH: ideal with dry pastas, hazelnut cakes, pastries. Tantalising aperitif with fresh fruit. It also goes well with any cuisine with a focus on spices, and with cheeses such as gorgonzola. Can also be enjoyed in cocktails.

HAKUSHU DISTILLER’S RESERVE – 700ML

The Distiller’s Reserve is a new single malt from the Japanese distillery of Hakushu. The whisky has been constructed to showcase the qualities and characteristics of Hakushu’s young lightly peated single malts. These have been accentuated by blending with older heavily peated malt and aged (all of which are 18+ years old) American oak matured whisky. All the casks used have been hand selected by Shinji Fukuyo, who is only the fourth Chief Blender in owner Suntory’s 90 year history.

Hakushu is located on the slopes of Mount Kaikomagatake in the Yamanashi Prefecture, which lies to the northwest of Tokyo. It sits 700 metres (2,300 feet) above sea level. The location is reflected in the name, as Hakushu means ‘forest distillery’ in Japanese. As mentioned, it is owned and operated by Suntory and was opened in 1973, exactly 50 years after they opened their pioneering first distillery at Yamazaki. The current production capacity is three million litres per year. In addition, a new ‘experimental’ grain distillery has recently started operating on the site.

The Distiller’s Reserve joins the 12 years old expression to form a core range. They will be occasionally joined by limited editions, as has happened in the past. Suntory recommend drinking it neat or in a highball with ice and soda water. The Distiller’s Reserve is bottled at 43% ABV and will per bottle. It will be available very shortly in specialist whisky retailers.

Our Tasting Committee has explored every facet of the blend and identified several emotions that were assimilated to an Odyssey through 7 chapters:

  • Sweet Notes: The palate is warmly embraced by flavors of candied fruit.
  • Rising Heat: The intriguing sensation of an intense, rising heat slowly reveals the complex taste of eaux-de-vie patiently aged in oak barrels.
  • Spicy Edge: Perception of a strong spicy cognac note, tantalising the lips and palate with its distinct peppery flavor intertwined with a hint of chocolate.
  • Flowing Flame: A wave of warmth grows, crests and then breaks. A robust presence, full and voluptuous, is felt.
  • Chocolate Lull: There is the gradual discovery of something very familiar. It is the well-rounded flavor of a rich, dark chocolate.
  • Wood Crunches: A striking sensation is suddenly felt – the vigorous ebb and flow of oak notes interlaced with vanilla.
