CHATEAU ANGELUS 2012 – 750ML
CHATEAU ANGELUS 2012 – 750ML2012 was an important year for Angélus: it won the status of Premier Grand Cru Classé “A”, and a member of the eighth generation of our family joined the estate’s Directorate, while 2012 was also the 230th anniversary of the Boüard de Laforest’s arrival in Saint-Emilion. The year also saw extension and improvement work done on the estate on a hitherto unequalled scale.
Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal decided therefore to highlight this vintage with new packaging – a unique bottle to celebrate an historic vintage.
With its black capsule bearing the Boüard de Laforest family crest, the 2012 bottle also replaced the traditional paper label with a raised gold inscription, which decorates the glass, providing its own sparkle, while emphasizing the Angélus bell.
The entire 2012 harvest is conditioned in these beautiful bottles, some of which are large formats ranging from magnums to melchiors (18 litres).

CHATEAU BEYCHEVELLE 2012 – 750ML
CHATEAU BEYCHEVELLE 2012 – 750MLThe grand vin, the 2012 Beychevelle, is one of the stars of St. Julien. Opaque purple, with beautiful crème de cassis notes, the wine has floral underpinnings, sweet tannin and a nice layered, multi-dimensional mouthfeel. This is elegant and powerful, rich and intense, but light on its feet. This is a great Beychevelle and certainly seems to exceed the vintage’s character and expectations.

CHATEAU BRANE CANTENAC MARGAUX 2014 – 750ML
CHATEAU BRANE CANTENAC MARGAUX 2014 – 750MLRemarkable intensity on the nose, with rare notes of apricot, pineapple and peach. Hints of white pepper and red fruits reveal themselves on the second nose. The attack is round with very elegant tannins. The wine is wonderfully smooth and velvety in texture, with exceptional length, reinforced by a strong aromatic finish.
The 2014 Brane-Cantenac has a very classy bouquet, very well defined with blackberry, cedar and tobacco scents, that trademark graphite scent emerging with a few swirls of the glass. It is exactly what you expect from this Margaux estate. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well-judged acidity, graphite and cedar towards the linear finish that will clearly need several years to unfold. Classic Margaux really, but wise owls will cellar it away for several years.

CHATEAU CALON SEGUR 1986 – 750ML
CHATEAU CALON SEGUR 1986 – 750MLTasted at the château, the 1986 Calon Segur has a thin tawny rim that gives away its 30 years of age. It is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The bouquet is fully mature, not complex but perfumed with wilted violets infusing the candied red fruit, clove and dried orange peel aromas. It probably is a little static and rustic compared to more recent vintages, probably typical of this era for the estate. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin. Like the 1986 Phelan-Segur, this is a “gutsy” Saint Estèphe, rough around the edges, a bit square-jawed and uncouth. Yet there is plenty of density and satisfying freshness, with a tang of spice on the cedar-tinged finish.

CHATEAU CERTAN DE MAY 1993 – 750ML
CHATEAU CERTAN DE MAY 1993 – 750MLCertan de May is perfectly situated in the heart of the plateau of Pomerol, rubbing shoulders with the commune’s most illustrious names: Petrus, Vieux Chateau Certan and Le Pin. Despite its charmed position, the wines do not really live up to the competition. That is not to say that they are not good, they are excellent, exotic, perfumed, slightly tarty expressions of Pomerol and they are quite reasonably priced (in the context of Pomerol), however, they have yet to emerge as one of the leading lights in this star studded appellation.
The 1993 Château Certan de May is a red wine made by Château Certan de May from Pomerol based on merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc of 1993. The 1993 Château Certan de May is the ideal red to combine with birds and game.

CHATEAU CLOS DU MARQUIS 1995 – 750ML
CHATEAU CLOS DU MARQUIS 1995 – 750MLClos du Marquis 1995 is composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 23% Merlot, harvested between the 21st of September and 9th of October. It is aging in French oak barriques, 50% new. The alcohol is 14.1% with a pH of 3.62 and an IPT of 79.
Displaying a deep purple-black color, the nose is a little reticent to begin, but with just a little coaxing, it soon opens out to show off impressively flamboyant notes of blackberry preserves, baked plums and blackcurrant pastilles with suggestions of cinnamon toast, Darjeeling tea, licorice and camphor plus a hint of wilted roses. Medium to full- bodied, the palate layers in all of these exciting mineral sparks with with the energetic, fresh black fruits, supported by rock-solid, ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and earthy.
It offers a fine expression of the Saint-Julien character: structure, complexity, harmony, distinction and ageing potential.

CHATEAU GRUAUD LAROSE 1995 – 750ML
CHATEAU GRUAUD LAROSE 1995 – 750MLChâteau Gruaud-Larose is a Cru Classé property that produces one of St-Julien’s most full-bodied and long-lived wines. For many years Gruaud-Larose was owned by the négociants Cordier, who also own Château Talbot. It was sold in 1993 to the French conglomerate, Alcastel Alstom, which in turn sold it to the Taillan Group, owners of Chasse-Spleen and Haut-Bages-Libéral, in 1997. The talented Georges Pauli has remained as régisseur and winemaker throughout all these changes.
Gruaud-Larose has 84 hectares of vineyards located on a gravel-rich plateau just to the west of Château Beychevelle. Chateau Gruaud Larose has a terroir that is mostly gravel, with quartz, clay and sand based soil on the surface. Under the top soil you find more sand and limestone. However, clay plays more of an important role here than at other vineyards in the region, as there is more clay in the terroir of Gruaud Larose than you can find at any other St. Julien vineyard.

CHATEAU HAUT BRION 1985 – 750ML
CHATEAU HAUT BRION 1985 – 750MLA gloriously seductive, classic Haut-Brion showing the most savory side of this elegant, finessed-styled wine, the 1985 Haut-Brion has reached its plateau of full maturity. The colour is deep ruby/garnet with some lightening at the edge. A very complex nose of cedar, dried herbs, smoke, creosote and black cherries, plums and currants jumps from the glass. In the mouth, it is round, concentrated, medium to full bodied, with a velvety texture and beautifully integrated alcohol, acidity and tannin. A beauty!

CHATEAU HAUT BRION 2002 – 750ML (OUT OF STOCK)Very good intensity on the nose with blackberry, black olive, gravel and hot bricks/cedar. Great definition. The full-bodied palate is very dense and sturdy with gripping tannins. Very precise, obviously a lot of craftsmanship, but not as complex as some of the other First Growth ‘02 with autumn leaves fluttering down upon the elegant finish. A lovely wine to drink rather than intellectualize over.

CHATEAU HAUT BRION 2011 – 750ML
CHATEAU HAUT BRION 2011 – 750MLThe unbelievably superb 2011 Haut-Brion (a tiny production of 7,600 cases from a blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 19% Cabernet Franc) exhibits a classic nose of subtle smoldering embers, warm rocks, black currants, new saddle leather, spice box and high quality, unsmoked cigar tobacco. The color is a dense ruby/purple to the edge, and the wine cuts a serious as well as broad swath across the palate. The most amazing aspect of this terroir is that the wine, despite all its power and richness, literally dances on the palate.

CHATEAU HAUT BRION 2013 – 750ML (OUT OF STOCK)Its bigger sibling, the 2013 Haut-Brion, is a blend of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. This classic effort tastes like a Haut-Brion, a major accomplishment in this vintage. Slightly fuller, richer and more complete than its nearby rival, La Mission Haut-Brion, it exhibits a deep ruby/purple color as well as hints of scorched earth, barbecue, charcoal, red and black currant, Asian plum sauce and spice notes. Fine-grained tannins are present, but well-integrated, and the acidity is not excessive. The result is a relatively plush, mid-weight, stylish, potentially complex Haut-Brion to drink over the next 15+ years.

CHATEAU HAUT-BAILLY PESSAC LEOGNAN ROUGE 2013 – 750ML
CHATEAU HAUT-BAILLY PESSAC LEOGNAN ROUGE 2013 – 750MLThere are only 2,500 cases of the 2013 Haut-Bailly because yields were a microscopic 20 hectoliters per hectare. Made from a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, this elegant effort boasts a dense ruby/purple color as well as a beautiful, intriguing bouquet of spring flowers, creme de cassis, plums and an underlying Graves earthiness. Layered with more texture and concentration than many of its peers, it will benefit from several years of cellaring, and should last an atypically long time of 20 years. The harvest occurred at this beautiful estate in the heart of Pessac-Leognan between October 1-10. Production was tiny, and Veronique Sanders, the brilliant winemaker, was worried about pushing for too much extraction, so vinification was intelligently done in a gentle manner in order to extract the softest tannins possible.

Youthfully mute with bright, youthful red currants, black raspberries, cassis and freshly crushed blackberries notions, it slowly unfurls to reveal an earthy/minerally undercurrent of damp soil, charcoal, iron ore and truffles plus a waft of violets. Medium to full-bodied, decadently fruited and yet wonderfully elegant with very ripe, very silky tannins, freshness that sits well in the background and an almost electric intensity of vibrant red and black fruit flavors, it finishes long and minerally. Just. Beautiful.

CHATEAU LA TOUR HAUT BRION 2004 – 750ML
CHATEAU LA TOUR HAUT BRION 2004 – 750MLChâteau La Tour Haut-Brion was a small property of 5 hectares tucked neatly next to La Mission Haut-Brion (and almost out of site). Its vines were originally planted in the 16th century by the noble Rostaing family – one of the very first non-clerical producers of quality wine in Bordeaux – and the estate was known as “La Tour de Rostaing and La Tour d’Esquivens”. It was not known as La Tour Haut-Brion until the 19th century. The estate passed through a series of owners until it found new owners in 1935, brothers, Fernand and Henri Woltner, the then owners of neighboring La Mission Haut-Brion and Laville Haut-Brion. In the 1953 during the Grave Classification, La Tour Haut-Brion was rated as a Cru Classé. It was eventually sold to Clarence Dillon, owners of both Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion in 1983. Prior to this time, it was considered the second wine of La Mission but was made in its own right. The 2005 vintage was the last to be made as it was decided that its grapes would be integrated into either La Chapelle Haut-Brion, La Mission’s second wine, or La Mission itself once the vines received a certain age or quality.
The 2004 has a smooth richness, coupled with a restrained delicacy that belies that the power of the dense tannins at the core. The aftertaste, though, is more soft and seductive.

CHATEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD 2011 – 750ML
CHATEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD 2011 – 750MLChâteau Lafite-Rothschild is a true icon in the wine world and a beacon of quality in Bordeaux. One of only five first growth wines of the highest order, Lafite evokes thoughts of purity and balance that makes this such an iconic wine. Produced from a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot. Spice, blackberry liqueur, licorice, earth, graphite and gravel scents lead to a full-bodied wine with supple tannins, freshness and good concentration. The wine ends with a bright, elegant cassis-filled finish. The wine shows the power typical of a Lafite but within the context of the fruity 2011 vintage. The immensely dense tannic structure gives the wine a solid feel that is lifted by so much ripe black currant and berry fruits. At the back, the wine has a more brooding, dark character that suggests great aging potential.

CHATEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD 2014 – 750MLThe Château Lafite-Rothschild 2014 is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc, picked from 22 September until 10 October with the Petit Verdot, the Cabernet finished two days earlier.
The Grand Vin is adorned with surprising richness and opulence on the nose: layers of ripe black plum and juniper, fine definition with even a hint of fig developing with continued aeration. After 5 minutes it turns volte face and becomes much more graphite and cedary – more Pauillac in essence. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannin, a potent core of black and blue fruit with a bullish (for Lafite) peacock’s tail on the finish.
