*A – A* PENFOLDS BIN 389 CABERNET SHIRAZ YEAR OF RABBIT – 1500MLBin 389 was often referred to as ‘Baby Grange’, in part because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange. First made in 1960 by the legendary Max Schubert, this was the wine that helped forge Penfolds reputation with red wine drinkers by combining the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the richness of Shiraz.
In 2023, Penfolds celebrate the Year of the Rabbit. Celebrate a happy and prosperous new year with the limited edition magnum.

CHATEAU CALON SEGUR 1986 – 750ML
CHATEAU CALON SEGUR 1986 – 750MLTasted at the château, the 1986 Calon Segur has a thin tawny rim that gives away its 30 years of age. It is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The bouquet is fully mature, not complex but perfumed with wilted violets infusing the candied red fruit, clove and dried orange peel aromas. It probably is a little static and rustic compared to more recent vintages, probably typical of this era for the estate. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin. Like the 1986 Phelan-Segur, this is a “gutsy” Saint Estèphe, rough around the edges, a bit square-jawed and uncouth. Yet there is plenty of density and satisfying freshness, with a tang of spice on the cedar-tinged finish.

CHATEAU CANON 2016 – 750ML
CHATEAU CANON 2016 – 750MLStroll through the vineyards in the heat of a summer afternoon, enjoying the refreshing breeze coming down off the St Emilion high land. This is the place which you find yourself transported by Chateau Canon 2016. The nose releases aromas of black cherries and ripe fruit, then the fragrances of violets and chocolate express themselves. A few notes of fresh fig and slightly peppery spices complete the aromatic palette, which reveals excellent length and unctuosity. The fine, silky tannins create a creamy and long-lasting mouthfeel. The limestone plateau imprints it minerality and brings a liveliness on the palate along with beautiful balance.

CHATEAU CERTAN DE MAY 1993 – 750ML
CHATEAU CERTAN DE MAY 1993 – 750MLCertan de May is perfectly situated in the heart of the plateau of Pomerol, rubbing shoulders with the commune’s most illustrious names: Petrus, Vieux Chateau Certan and Le Pin. Despite its charmed position, the wines do not really live up to the competition. That is not to say that they are not good, they are excellent, exotic, perfumed, slightly tarty expressions of Pomerol and they are quite reasonably priced (in the context of Pomerol), however, they have yet to emerge as one of the leading lights in this star studded appellation.
The 1993 Château Certan de May is a red wine made by Château Certan de May from Pomerol based on merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc of 1993. The 1993 Château Certan de May is the ideal red to combine with birds and game.

CHATEAU CLOS DU MARQUIS 1995 – 750ML
CHATEAU CLOS DU MARQUIS 1995 – 750MLClos du Marquis 1995 is composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 23% Merlot, harvested between the 21st of September and 9th of October. It is aging in French oak barriques, 50% new. The alcohol is 14.1% with a pH of 3.62 and an IPT of 79.
Displaying a deep purple-black color, the nose is a little reticent to begin, but with just a little coaxing, it soon opens out to show off impressively flamboyant notes of blackberry preserves, baked plums and blackcurrant pastilles with suggestions of cinnamon toast, Darjeeling tea, licorice and camphor plus a hint of wilted roses. Medium to full- bodied, the palate layers in all of these exciting mineral sparks with with the energetic, fresh black fruits, supported by rock-solid, ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and earthy.
It offers a fine expression of the Saint-Julien character: structure, complexity, harmony, distinction and ageing potential.

CHATEAU GRUAUD LAROSE 1995 – 750ML
CHATEAU GRUAUD LAROSE 1995 – 750MLChâteau Gruaud-Larose is a Cru Classé property that produces one of St-Julien’s most full-bodied and long-lived wines. For many years Gruaud-Larose was owned by the négociants Cordier, who also own Château Talbot. It was sold in 1993 to the French conglomerate, Alcastel Alstom, which in turn sold it to the Taillan Group, owners of Chasse-Spleen and Haut-Bages-Libéral, in 1997. The talented Georges Pauli has remained as régisseur and winemaker throughout all these changes.
Gruaud-Larose has 84 hectares of vineyards located on a gravel-rich plateau just to the west of Château Beychevelle. Chateau Gruaud Larose has a terroir that is mostly gravel, with quartz, clay and sand based soil on the surface. Under the top soil you find more sand and limestone. However, clay plays more of an important role here than at other vineyards in the region, as there is more clay in the terroir of Gruaud Larose than you can find at any other St. Julien vineyard.

CHATEAU LA MISSION HAUT-BRION 2015 – 750MLThe deep garnet-purple colored 2015 La Mission Haut-Brion is a blend of 58% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. Youthfully mute with bright, youthful red currants, black raspberries, cassis and freshly crushed blackberries notions, it slowly unfurls to reveal an earthy/minerally undercurrent of damp soil, charcoal, iron ore and truffles plus a waft of violets. Medium to full-bodied, decadently fruited and yet wonderfully elegant with very ripe, very silky tannins, freshness that sits well in the background and an almost electric intensity of vibrant red and black fruit flavors, it finishes long and minerally. Just. Beautiful.

CHATEAU LA TOUR HAUT BRION 2004 – 750ML (OUT OF STOCK)
CHATEAU LA TOUR HAUT BRION 2004 – 750ML (OUT OF STOCK)Château La Tour Haut-Brion was a small property of 5 hectares tucked neatly next to La Mission Haut-Brion (and almost out of site). Its vines were originally planted in the 16th century by the noble Rostaing family – one of the very first non-clerical producers of quality wine in Bordeaux – and the estate was known as “La Tour de Rostaing and La Tour d’Esquivens”. It was not known as La Tour Haut-Brion until the 19th century. The estate passed through a series of owners until it found new owners in 1935, brothers, Fernand and Henri Woltner, the then owners of neighboring La Mission Haut-Brion and Laville Haut-Brion. In the 1953 during the Grave Classification, La Tour Haut-Brion was rated as a Cru Classé. It was eventually sold to Clarence Dillon, owners of both Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion in 1983. Prior to this time, it was considered the second wine of La Mission but was made in its own right. The 2005 vintage was the last to be made as it was decided that its grapes would be integrated into either La Chapelle Haut-Brion, La Mission’s second wine, or La Mission itself once the vines received a certain age or quality.
The 2004 has a smooth richness, coupled with a restrained delicacy that belies that the power of the dense tannins at the core. The aftertaste, though, is more soft and seductive.

CHATEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD 2008 – 750ML (OUT OF STOCK)The 2008 Lafite-Rothschild is one of the few wines that’s still obviously closed and backward, yet nevertheless shows incredible potential. Made from a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, and 4% Cabernet Franc (whiclis more Merlot than normal), it offers textbook Lafite elegance and class in its perfume of lead pencil, cedarwood, cigar smoke, and mineral-laced black fruits.
Playing in the medium to full-bodied spectrum, it’s deceivingly concentrated and powerful due to its perfect balance and purity as well as weightless texture.

CHATEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD 2012 – 750ML (OUT OF STOCK)
CHATEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD 2012 – 750ML (OUT OF STOCK)The classically styled 2012 exhibits attractive elegance, medium body and outstanding concentration, but not the complexity and depth or prodigious qualities of many other recent Lafites. It is a relatively soft. spicy effort displaying notes of crushed rocks, white chocolate, black currants and graphite. It should be drinkable in 5-8 years and last for two decades.
Charles Chevalier was candid in saying that the tropical heat wave, along with the poor flowering resulted in intense labor in the vineyard and during the harvest where triage was the operative word, and had to be done thoroughly and consistently. The 2012 Lafite Rothschild, a blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8.5% Merlot and 0.5% Petit Verdot, was the result of a harvest that took place between September 28 and October 9 for the Merlot, October 9-16 for the Cabernet Sauvignon. The small amount of Cabernet Franc included in the Carruades de Lafite was harvested on October 11 – 12. Only 38% of the production made it into the grand vin. If the 2012 fills out completely it could turn out similar to the 1998 Lafite.

CHATEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD 2014 – 750ML
CHATEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD 2014 – 750MLThe Château Lafite-Rothschild 2014 is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc, picked from 22 September until 10 October with the Petit Verdot, the Cabernet finished two days earlier.
The Grand Vin is adorned with surprising richness and opulence on the nose: layers of ripe black plum and juniper, fine definition with even a hint of fig developing with continued aeration. After 5 minutes it turns volte face and becomes much more graphite and cedary – more Pauillac in essence. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannin, a potent core of black and blue fruit with a bullish (for Lafite) peacock’s tail on the finish.

CHATEAU LYNCH BAGES PAUILLAC 2014 – 750MLThe 2014 Lynch-Bages is just as powerful and dense from bottle as it was from barrel. Deep, powerful and bold, it possesses remarkable richness in all of its dimensions. Ripe red cherry, spice, leather, tobacco and rose petal all develop in the glass, but it is the wine’s sheer amplitude today that is quite remarkable. It will need quite a bit of cellaring to be at its best, and is clearly built to age. This is a terrific showing from the Cazes family.
