CHATEAU ROCANGUILLE BORDEAUX MERLOT – 750MLChâteau Rocanguille is a family-owned property for 3 generations. It has 8 hectares of vineyards growing on a magnificent clay-limestone plateau.
Vinification take progress in the tradition, same as the great Bordeaux châteaux. First, they pick the grapes at perfect maturity. Secondly, to facilitate the extraction of the tannins, they thermo-vinify the grapes immediately upon arrival in the winery. Finally, they allow the extravagant aromas to express themselves to their full capacity. Last but not least, temperature is well controlled during fermentation. As a result a great Bordeaux wine take essence worthy of a Grand Cru.
Medium deep ruby red with a youthful purple hue. Floral nose offering crushed red berries, cassis and a mild spiciness. The palate has medium weight with a supple texture and ripe tannin, a gentle hint of wood and butterscotch with soft red fruit flavours and a rounded finish. ”

There is something almost Musigny-like here (written as a complement incidentally—why not be compared to the greatest Burgundy Grand Cru?). The palate is medium-bodied with a soft and mellow opening. Quite spicy in the mouth with leather-tinged fruit on the open and inviting finish, there is something very approachable about this Smith-Haut-Lafitte, though like the 2014 Pape-Clement, it contains the substance to drink well over 10-15 years.

It has the fruit and texture to drink nicely even today, yet my money is on it benefiting from 2-4 years of bottle age, and it should have over two decades of longevity.

Superb impenetrable inky black core with a deep bright dark red black hue. Nosing reveals uplifted aromatics of ripe blackcurrant intermixed with a hint of plum and liquorice followed by faint earth and spicy cedar. The palate possesses excellent richness, solid concentration and chewy finish. Mouthfilling flavours of blackcurrants and a touch of liquorice sit over a back drop of scorched earth, subtle graphite infusions and spicy cedar. Whilst the tannins are chewy and provide some grip, they are riper and not as dry as the 2014 vintage. Good length with a medium to long aftertaste of blackcurrant, subtle liquorice, infusions of graphite, scorched earth and spicy cedar.

The year 2011 was one of the most intense vintages that the winery has ever produced, and the wine is finally starting to show its full potential now; 1999 is one of the château’s favorite vintage for serving its guests; whereas the charming character of Margaux’s 1987 continues to emanate despite the difficult weather of the year.
The wines included in the set are also one of the last remaining stocks of the winery.
All three bottles of fine wines come with security measures and are presented in specially designed wooden cases embossed with the logo of Château Margaux and the Chinese character for “rabbit”.
