PATRON GRAND PIEDRA – 750MLFor Gran Patrón Piedra, it all starts with 100% Weber Blue agave grown in the Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, of which only the best are selected for this, Gran Patrón Platinum and Gran Patrón Burdeos. The agave is slowly steam-cooked before being crushed with a two-ton Tahona. The Tahona is a traditional method that utilizes a two-ton volcanic stone wheel to extract the sugary juice from the agave, which is then fermented, distilled, and aged in barrels. Piedra, which means “stone” in Spanish, is created entirely from the traditional Tahona process – a process that few tequilas are made with anymore. After distillation, the tequila is then aged for three years in new American and French oak barrels before being bottled at 80 proof.
Deep mahogany color, and sweet, smooth aroma of fruit, fresh mushroom, light citrus, and toasted French oak. The taste is sweet, yet rich and complex, combining an herbaceous agave flavor with light vanilla, and fresh mushroom. The finish is long-lasting and remarkably smooth. The original Bin 2 was an ‘Australian Burgundy’ style (despite its Rhône varieties) – typically a soft, medium-bodied wine based on shiraz. The Bin 2 blend of Shiraz and Mataro is still relatively uncommon in Australian table wines. Also known as Monastrell or Mourvèdre, Mataro was introduced to Australia in the 1830s. Often used in fortified wine production, this grape is widely planted in the Barossa Valley.
It is valued by winemakers for its blending attributes, adding complexity and palate grip. Interest in Bin 2 has grown as the popularity of traditional Rhône varieties and blends continues to flourish.
A delightfully complex amalgam of savoury green olives, pepperoni with a hint of sweet/salty Dutch liquorice. Soft blue fruits to the fore with textured tannins providing grip. An ample palate gives this wine generosity and presence.

Colour: Darkened deep red.
Nose: Unabashed (Baby Grange) complexities. Ample self-standing fruits already beginning to yield to other vinous intents. Cola, grated chocolate and cappuccino dust bind with juniper and spices. A flash of brown sugar and liquorice, brandy impressions replaced by blood orange-rind. Oak somewhat partially hidden, yet faint scents of cedar and graphite lobby for further bottle maturation.
Palate: Instantly fresh and fleshy. Some overt single-varietal cabernet and shiraz fruits still sit separate. Expected liquorice, stewed plum and blackcurrant, with dark chocolate and mocha in the background. Savoury and salivating – mouth-watering, succulent acidity. Impressive length with concentration, and a mandatory Bin 389 ‘sweet’ core; oak completely absorbed. Polished and refined.
