The Cognac Cask Matured is a vatting of 32 Cognac casks sourced from Tonellerie Bossuet (France). The 2023 limited edition sees heavily peated spirit and spends its full maturation in Cognac casks for a minimum of six years. During its maturation, the spirit has captured the herbaceous, sweet spice from the Cognac casks which balances with our citrus-fruit led spirit, allowing the maritime Kilchoman peat smoke to subtly shine through.

Nose
Herbal smoke, very spicy, cognac doesn’t come through very well in the nose.

Taste
Mild creamy attack, dry wood, smoldering (heather) herbs. Gooseberries, kiwi, green branches. Sparkles on the tongue like champagne.

Finish
Short to almost medium-length finish, still the champagne sparkle, gooseberries, smoked apricot pieces, warm tin roof, herbal smoke.

Matured twice in American oak, Laphroaig Quarter Cask presents an irresistible doubling of flavour.

Because the second maturation takes place in smaller, quarter-sized casks, the spirit has more contact with wood. This lends hints of coconut, banana and vanilla to the instantly recognizable Laphroaig flavor of smoky peat complemented by a surprising sweetness.

It should be enjoyed alone, over ice or with a splash of water to fully pay tribute to the unique flavor. Laphroaig Quarter Cask begins its maturation in ex-bourbon barrels and, while still aging, is transferred to small quarter casks. Aging in smaller barrels revives an old tradition, paying tribute to the master distillers who have perfected the Laphroaig process over two centuries.

This whisky was awarded a Gold in the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Award.

This is a 12 year old single malt produced at the Mortlach distillery in Speyside, unveiled in 2018 as part of a trio (including a 16 Year Old and a 20 Year Old). This particular expression features the subtitle The Wee Witchie, which comes from the name of the tiny still that distils a portion of the whisky. It’s drawn from bourbon and sherry casks, and packs a hearty punch of meaty Mortlach-y malt at its core, supported by dried fruit and toffee notes.

NOSE: A sticky fruit loaf with sultanas and dates, backed by a dry, heavy note.

PALATE: Smooth in texture with a strong, spicy and sweet flavour. Add a drop of water for a milder palate.

FINISH: Long, peppery and punchy.
